What is the Public Service Grant Commission?

The Public Service Grant Commission, made up of one faculty and five student commissioners, is a $20,000 fund dedicated to supporting GW students’ passion for performing innovative service projects with organizations based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

GW Students can apply for mini-grant awards ranging from $500 – $2500 per individual or group project. There are currently 4 deadlines for the 2016-17 academic year. Please see those deadlines along with other information on the Commission below.

What do Public Service Grants do?

Public Service grants make it possible for GW students to harness their passions for changing the world through innovative student-led projects. Mini-grant awards provide financial backing to the ideas of GW students.

When can I apply for the awards?

There are currently 4 deadlines during the 2016-17 academic year of which you can apply. They are:

Fall 2016

PSGC Application Deadline #1 : Oct 7th 2016
PSGC Application Deadline #2 : Nov. 4th 2016

Spring 2017

PSGC Application Deadline #3 : February 3rd 2016
PSGC Application Deadline #4 : March 3rd 2017

Can I/How do I apply for the awards?

You can apply for awards either by submitting a paper application or by submitting an online application.  You may contact PSGC support staff at for questions pertaining to the PSGC application.

Can I/How do I apply to be a Public Grant Commissioner?

Public Service Grant Commissioners have already been selected for 2016-2017 academic year. Make sure to apply next year! You may download the Commissioner application here. After completing the application please submit via email to or mail it to the physical drop off on 827 22nd St. NW.

When will I be notified if my proposal was accepted?

You will be notified within 21 days of your proposal submission

Can I apply for the award on behalf of a student org?

Yes, both individuals and groups, including student orgs may apply for up to a $2500 dollar mini-grant award.
